I’ve always loved writing—for several reasons: (1) it’s the precursor to reading (which I love even more), (2) I'm an inveterate "information networker," and (3) writing is an artistic expression for me that, at its best, approaches "making music with words."
Over the years, I’ve written essays, poetry, magazine articles, special sections for newspapers, catalog and “back cover” copy, and marketing/advertising campaigns and collateral. Now, much later in life than most, I’m working on my first novel--which is exciting.
But writing is rarely effortless and euphoric. As Hemingway once said, “There is nothing to writing; you just sit down at a typewriter and bleed.” Some days, it’s just a pinprick's worth; on others, you have to get up and do something else before you hemorrhage to death.
Thanks for visiting this site. If you’re interested in updates on my novel, “American Queen,” and my monthly blog about what life was like during the Gilded Age, especially for women, please sign up for my email. I won’t sell or abuse the privilege, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Except for my membership in the Historical Novel Society (which has a fabulous Mid-South chapter based in Nashville) and two residencies at the magical Rockvale Writers' Colony in Middle Tennessee, my writing community is virtual and reaches around the globe.
And you’re a part of that. I’d love to hear from you—what you like, what you don’t, and if a particular blog (or, in a couple of years, a part of my book) made you see a certain person, event, or custom differently. I’ll try my best to respond—but even if I don’t, just know that I read every comment and email. (But remember that there’s a real person on this end reading it, so try to be kind!)
Besides my blog, you can also follow me on Instagram (carolhubbardauthor), LinkedIn (carolhubbard1), and Twitter (@HubbardAuthor). And should you be a fellow Airstream aficionado, feel free to follow my husband and me (and pampered longhaired calico part-Maine Coon cat, Shawnee) on our Airstreamin' the Dream Facebook page, Instragram, and YouTube chann
